Republican HQ Manager's Home Shot Up Over McCain Signs
'Democrats Far More Aggressive in Seminole County,' Victim Says

      POSTED: 11:26 pm EDT October 22, 2008
      UPDATED: 10:45 am EDT October 23, 2008

LONGWOOD, Fla. -- The home of a Central Florida Republican headquarters manager was shot up and damaged over his support of Sen. John McCain, the man told police.

      IMAGES: Home Shot Up

Rog Coverely said several pellets pierced his Longwood home. Coverely showed several spiderwebbed-holes in the front windows of his home.

The Republican manager said he is convinced he was targeted because of new McCain signs he added around his home.

"All I can tell you is this, I have a very good relationship with my neighbors," Coverely said. "I mow my lawn. The only thing that has changed is I have two McCain signs in my front yard."

Coverely said he has taken about 300 calls concerning stolen or vandalized McCain signs in the area.

"It says this campaign is getting vicious," Coverely said.

Coverely said it appears Democrats are becoming more aggressive in the county.

"I wouldn't say slipping, but I would say the Democrats have become far more aggressive in Seminole County because it is such a heavy Republican area," Coverely said.

Meanwhile, McCain was in Florida on Thursday.

The Republican presidential nominee spoke at Allstar Building Materials in Ormond Beach. Later he'll be in Sarasota for a "Joe the Plumber" bus tour rally at Robarts Arena.

Group asks IRS to investigate Catholic bishop against Obama

By Daniel Burke, Religion News Service
WASHINGTON "” A church-state watchdog group has asked the Internal Revenue Service to investigate whether the Roman Catholic bishop of Paterson, N.J., violated tax laws by denouncing Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.
In a letter sent to the IRS on Wednesday (Oct. 22), Americans United for Separation of Church and State accused Paterson Bishop Arthur Serratelli of illegal partisanship for lambasting Obama's support of abortion rights.

In a column posted on the Diocese of Paterson's website and published in its weekly newspaper, Serratelli also compared Obama to King Herod, the biblical monarch who ordered the death of John the Baptist.

The bishop did not refer to Obama by name but only as "the present democratic (sic) candidate."

Under federal tax law, nonprofit groups "” including religious organizations "” are prohibited from intervening in campaigns for public office by endorsing or opposing candidates.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: New Jersey | Catholic Church | Roman Catholic Church | Sen. Barack Obama | Catholics | Internal Revenue Service | Washington-based | Baptist | New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani | United for Separation of Church | Rev. Barry Lynn | King Herod | Diocese of Paterson | Freedom of Choice Act
Serratelli wrote that Obama has pledged, if elected president, to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, abortion-rights legislation the Catholic Church vehemently opposes.

"If this politician fulfills his promise, not only will many of our freedoms as Americans be taken from us, but the innocent and vulnerable will spill their blood," Serratelli wrote.

The Rev. Barry Lynn, president of Americans United, said it is "impossible to interpret this passage as anything but a command to vote against 'the present Democratic candidate' because of his promise to sign a certain piece of legislation disfavored by the Catholic Church's hierarchy."

The Paterson diocese said Serratelli's column was focused on proposed abortion legislation, not the upcoming presidential election.

"It's absolutely, positively misleading to say that the bishop urged Catholics not to vote for Sen. Obama," the diocese said in a statement.

Rob Boston, a spokesman for the Washington-based Americans United, said that of the estimated 90 claims it has filed with the IRS since 1996, only four others have accused Catholic bishops or dioceses of electioneering.

Earlier this year, Americans United asked the IRS to investigate Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, for criticizing former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was running for the Republican presidential nomination at the time.

Islamic group calls on NMGOP to repudiate remarks made by Marcia Stirman

          Alamogordo Daily News
By Tim Korte, Associated Press Writer
Article Launched: 10/22/2008 12:00:00 AM MDT
The chairwoman of an Otero County Republican women's group on Tuesday defended a letter to the editor in which she wrote, ''I believe Muslims are our enemies.''

Marcia Stirman, a 56-year-old interior decorator, also called Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ''a Muslim socialist.''

A national Islamic group expressed outrage over Stirman's letter and called on state and national Republican Party officials to repudiate the publication of ''anti-Muslim comments.''

''Because these hate-filled remarks were made by a prominent Republican, it is incumbent on state and national GOP officials to repudiate her divisive and intolerant views,'' said Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Officials with the Republican Party of New Mexico had no immediate comment.

The letter ran Tuesday in the Alamogordo Daily News. It was titled ''Why I'm a Republican'' and listed 16 reasons for her party affiliation.

The list ends with Stirman saying Obama is ''a Muslim socialist.'' She also wrote, ''I believe war is a fact of life and we should always win.''

Stirman told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that she was surprised by reaction to her letter, which

she said included support from all over the country. She wrote it after the newspaper recently published another reader's letter titled ''Why I'm a Democrat.''
Asked for a response to Awad's concerns, she said of Muslims: ''I don't trust them at all. They've sworn across the world that they are our enemies. Why we're trying to elect one is beside me.''

Obama's Kenyan father was Muslim, but Obama grew up in a Christian family. Although he has professed his Christianity repeatedly and explained how his Christian faith shapes his politics, he has battled Internet-fueled rumors throughout the campaign that he is Muslim.

Stirman said she carefully considered what she wrote in the letter, refused to apologize and defended her right to express her views.

''I still have freedom of speech and an opinion. If the Islamic group doesn't like it, well, I don't like what's going on in their camp, either,'' Stirman said.

Well well...seems it was a made up story. So much for that bastion of accurate reporting that is the Drudge Report:

Looks like the Drudge report is about as good as the Daily Mail, Huffington Post and the DailyKos. LOL.

Though, I know something that never made it to the mainstream media. Tires were slashed outside the Sarah Palin rally here in Vegas last week. Happened to a friend of the family. Trying to find info on it is impossible. All the searches I've tried lead to it happening outside Dem rallies, not repub. Now that's unbiased reporting!

The truth is that Obama and the iberal media are covering up the truth and bashing the victim. We saw what Obama did to Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. They sent in hundreds of lawyers and investigators. No way Obama is going to let the rape of a white woman stop his takeover.
