How long before the interview after N-400 application is submitted?

I need to know how long will it take before an interview is scheduled for a person to be able to take the Citizenship exam and even after the Citizenship test at the interview,how long will it take before immigration calls that person in again for the swearing in ceremony..

Also,can a person who lives in NY state,after submitted their application form for naturalization,is it possible that if that person moves to a different state,like over in Florida,can he or she,have their case transferred to the other state that they are relocating to?

Any advice will very much be appreciated,thank you.

I filed for my naturalization at the beginning of October 2004 in PA and saw that the processing times were anywhere upto 18 months at the time. I moved to VT in November 2004, had my case transferred, had my interview in February 2005 and was a citizen in March 2005. I knew I was moving to VT soon after getting my I-751 approved in June 2004. I was really frustrated with the processing times and so eventhough I could have waited until I had moved to VT, I was determined to file on the exact day I was eligible which just so happened to be in October 2004. Ironically, as it turned out the longest part of the process was getting my case transferred. As I have explained many times before, I moved to VT because the population of immigrants is tiny compared to PA and because all the processing such as the background check is done at the LOCAL FBI office and not from Washington or the Service Centers, I sped through my naturalization. In your case, I suspect moving from NY to FL is not going to make a difference in the processing because both states have huge immigrant populations. If you are determined to get your citizenship quicker and you are definitely leaving NY then perhaps you should consider states such as VT or ME. Once you get your citizenship, you can leave and go to florida......it all depends on your urgency

It depends on the state-some are quicker than others. I know someone who applied in Dec-recieved application on Dec 16th, got fingerprinted 4 wks later-jan 13 and is scheduled for interview Mach 3rd. She lives in MD. Since the cost went up, they are reporting less applications and the process is much faster.

Circle, I forgot about the huge increase in fees for the green card and citizenship so what you said makes sense.

If you have have alredy filed, you can check your status on the USCIS web page. However, if you have not filed, then you have about a six month wait according to New York City processing times here.

It is possible, but you may experience e delay or a lost file if you move. USCIS is nortoriously reputable when it comes to these things. But if all goes well, expect a 45 to 60 day delay to allow time to move the file from New York to Florida.

It took 5 months to get a citizenship interview in NY after I had submitted all the paperwork. And 4 weeks later I was sworn in . I know that in some instances you can be sworn in right after your interview. All depends onstate and the particular USCIS office, I guess

After a long 2yr+ wait thanks to the now infamous FBI namecheck fiasco, I had both the Citizenship interview and the Oath on the same day. This was in SC.

Thank you Guys I very much appreciate the feedback that you all have given me so far...On the other hand,I have not yet filed for naturalization as yet but will be going for it soon...If I might need further advice from you guys as you all make me feel appreciative of the effort you made in providing me with vital information surrounding the naturalization process,etc.
