Good day, my fellow friends. I am making my first appearence on this helpful board, I would be delighted if you could help to pull me out of my confusion.
Okay, fancy intros aside, I am in a sort-of precarious situation. I've stayed in the US for about 7 years now, and just graduated high school (attended 6-12). And I was applying for colleges, got accepted and a pretty good scholarship, plus a couple of private scholarship (from ISDs, etc). My mother lives in Canada, and is a permenant resident, I am also a canadian permanent resident, and my father was working on H visa in the US, applying for the Green Card. So I am a citizen of China, a PR of Canada, and legal in the States (I guess I was going for a dual-citizenship there or something). During the last year, father got laid off (***mer). Since he was also taking classes for an associate degree concurrently, he immediately changed over to a F-1 after the layoff. All the sudden, I realized that I am now an international student (f-2 now), so since I was in the states already, I scrambled to get all the documents to the ISS advisor to send over to the Bureau, to change my status over to a F-1. Somehow the advisor missed a couple of things, and the application got sent back. Now the advisor tells me that the only way to go is to go to Canada and get a Visa. What are my changes of getting it? It's a vague question I know, but since if I tried to get the Visa and gets denied, I probably can't get back in the states and attend college. If I file the application in now within the States, it probably won't make it on time (since schools start in 2 month, and the F-1 thing takes about 3 now), do I have any other options, or should I just go for the Visa? If So, what kind of stuff should I be aware about?
