The maximum time is 1 year without a re-entry permit, however less than that can be an issue depending on the history - regular long-term stays outside the US will raise a red flag.

Max 364 days without losing their GC. On 365 day, they will have to be in US.

They should file for a re-entry permit before they make any plans to leave. It's usually valid for two years after being issued.

They can stay outside of US until 364 days without losing their GC but on 365 from the day of their departure they have to be back in USA.

If they are going for over 1-year, you can obtain re-entry permit from USCIS.

My parents are recent immigrants to US and have been living in US for last four months. They received there green cards in about a week after enetering into US.

They now wants to leave US temporarily and visit backhome to take care some of there domestic issues and dispose of there properties and that may require longer than 6 month stay outside US. Is there a way that they can stay longer then 6 months as it may take them possibly about a yr or may be 2 years to sort out there issues.

Can some one give me advise what do i need to in terms of taking permission form USINS for there extended stay and can still maintan there green card status.
