A civil judge can not take away someone's residency. It has to be an immigration officer/judge.
Divorce can indeed end the resindency status if the foreigner had a conditional green card. If the foreigner had a green card without conditions (10 years), the divorce has no effect whatsoever.

The answer is not fully true.
Just to ake it clear, your residency and anyone residency can be taken away, anytime PERIOD!
You can even lose your U.S. Citizenship, regardless if you are a born citizen or through green card.
The reason for losing your permenant residency aka green card are the following and is not limited to more options etc.
Being a felony, committing to many crimes etc.Support of terror act...and many other stuff...
And as far conditional green card goes, you can only lose your status,if you marriage was fraud, not if you get a divorce...it has be proven its fraud or was fraud.
So yeah, your permenant residency and anyones can be stripped away.Only of you do the things I have mentioned though and others,of which I have not a detailed list for.
Thats by the way not a opinion, thats legal fact!
