  • NEW PROGRAM ON WORK VISA

I reliably learnt that a new program/facility is about to take effect. It will allow an alien to be issued a work visa once she has a job offer irrespective of her current status in the country. How true is this and could the more informed people keep us posted on this? I'm sure it will be good news to a lot of people on this service, and our learned friends will be kept very busy. Thank you.

Your "reliable source" is mistaken. There is no such program. Bush proposed one last January which he plans to try to revive this coming year, but if anything, the climate is more against it now than then--and he couldn't get any legislation going then. There are also several "mini programs" of one sort or another (e.g. for students) proposed but none of those has gone anywhere either. Note here: the key word is "proposed". Merely proposing a program or legislation means little to nothing. Legislation has to get through both houses of Congress, and that's tough. Also, if pending legislation doesn't get enacted by the time this Congress adjourns for Christmas, then the process has to start all over again in the next Congress.

You might also note that the program proposed by Bush is for 3 years only, with the possibility of renewal, but not indefinitely. In other words, workers would be required to return home when the visas ran out.

"would be required to return home when the visas ran out"
Many would return home if there was a waiver of 10 years bar.

Many would return home after those 3 years or at least they would have a chance to adjust their status.

Anything done towards unresolved problem would be good and beneficial.

I do not tink anything will happen. Just we stay here until our death.

But I think business does not to do anything for 1% od American hardest working work force.

There is more possible to win a milion dollars at lottery rather than to get work permit in US.
