oops, I don't know what happened to my post: anyway here again:

sorry, skyfi, I don't know what's up with 4now, she must be mistaking this forum for a soap opera or something and trying to pick up a trailer trash kinda fight. I have no idea what she's talking about, since I was refering to "mondoon" and "passingby", unless of course those are her alter egos.

Now, you are deportable and the biggest part against you is that you can not accrue time towards chancellation of removal (you'd need 10 yrs. and it has stopped the minute you were served the OTA). Some venues may be available, if you were brought here since you were still a minor when you entered. If you have a U.S. high school diploma - or the equavalence of it, some sort of legislative relief may be soon available. This is not for sure, but in my humble opinion very likely in this election year.

If you get removed, BCIS will prefer the country of citizenship. But you can make your wishes according to your ability to go to a third country party.

after bush's announcement -- NO illegal is planning on leaving. So i'd suggest just sit back, and wait for the amnesty to be announced. Otherwise you'll feel like an idiot leaving, and next year eveyr illegal getting a gc.

What exactly did Bush say? Did he propose a blanket amnesty?

And you can bet most illegals won't take up anything based on Bush's plan either. Any visas would be temporary, tied to having a job no American wanted, with the requirement you register, and leave the country after 3 years (possible extensions). Illegals could apply for a green card, but the backlog for that is 6 million and rising, meaning chances of getting one are slim to none (illegal aliens would be given no preferences in getting a green card). In the meantime, if your work permit expired OR if you lost your job you'd have to leave. Furthermore, there is no provision for self-employed workers (nannies, cleaning ladies, and the like.) Bush also promises more enforcement of the law.

In the meantime, from statements by congresspeople in the press, any action on immigration is likely to be postponed until after the election. More bills are introduced, and the more that are introduced, the less the consensus behind any one.

I wouldn't count on Democratic promises of an amnesty, either. Even if a Democrat gets elected, many Republican Congressmen have split with Bush on the issue of legalizing illegals, and are likely to get re-elected. In fact, even with both a Republican President and a Republican Congress currently, no amnesty is getting passed. With a Republican Congress and Democratic President, you can bet neither side will want the other to get its way, and the "credit" for any type of amnesty.

                >Any visas would be temporary,

Doesn't matter. They're now "legal", so they can now ahem "marry" and get gc's. Wanna bet how many i-130's are gonna get filed within the first year? It'll overload the system.

                >tied to having a job no American wanted

Who's gonna check Jose is actually working as a bilingual janitor at a farm in north dakota, and not in vegas as a casino clerk?

                >the country after 3 years (possible >extensions).

How will Bush deport them, if he can't deport them now?

                >backlog for that is 6 million and rising,

Doesn't matter. It's an amnesty meaning they're "legal" in status. And that's good enough to travel, drive, get a SSN, have kids, and eventually get your GC.

                >(illegal aliens would be given no preferences >in getting a green card).

No, but they would become equal with others when filing. An illegals timeline based upon marraige would be the same as everyone else.

I don't agree with this plan -- but i bet you, we'd have maybe 7 illegals left in this country once this "amnesty" is announced. Lawyers are gonna have a financial field day with this, setting up "jobs" and "paperwork" for 12 million people. Hell, i'd go into business too as a consultant to make extra cash for this venture.

It doesn't take a "legal status" to have kids dear , just a sperm and an egg. It doesn't take a "legal status" to drive either, just a car. It doesn't take "legal status" to travel. If it did, than all of those illegals wouldn't have been able to travel here in the first place. Nice wishful thinking, though.
                  Have a nice day
