  • How long does it take to bring a sibling to the US?

For example, the California service center shows that they are processing I-130s for sibling/brother received April 30,2001.

Thats about 5 years only! It seems the processing is much shorter than one can expect since some people say it takes 10-12 years!

After an approval of I-130, one has to wait for a visa number to become available for that category ( 4th ).

      Look at http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bu...etin_2771.html
At the moment, it does take about 12 years, unless the sibling is from Philippines - their wait is 23 years!

So does this mean it takes 5 years for the I-130 to get processed THEN another 12 years for the immigrant visa to become available?

As a confirmation of received I-130, USCIS sends Notice of Action. Priority date ( the same date when they received the petition, I think) is on that notice. To figure out when the visa will be available, one compares priority date with the cut-off dates in the Bulletin (link above).
It can take 1 month, 2 or 6 years for USCIS to approve I-130, it doesn't really matter as one cannot make the next step before the priority day becomes current. Approval of I-130 is only a part of process.

Shortly, we talk about 12 years total.

I knew a lady from Mexico who got residence through her sister. It took a total of 15 years or something like that.
            Have a nice day
