  • Federal Agencies

I dont know how to state the question but here is the situation.

A friend of mine who is out status but has a pending papers as a petition by employer has a boyfriend that works for USAF.. boyfriend told her that a federal investigation agency from the USAF may ask her questions about the guy for his clearance test. Question is will they be able to detect her status? and do a background check for her too? What are the other posibility that the agency take action against her? remind you this is a investigation agency that works for the usaf.

I wanted to comfort my friend and give her peace of mind about all these things, she loves her boyfriend so much likewise with the boyfriend but the investigation is frightening her already.

Any helpful comments are really appreciated. God Bless youall!

The background checks that Federal Agencies run do not include boyfriends or girlfriends. They ask for all family relatives of the applicant though. The fact that the applicant has an ilegal boyfriend wont be asked in any forms he/she would have to field.

My husband is a federal officer. Everytime he changes jobs withing the government he has to fill up this forms. They even ask for my parents (his in-laws) A#s. Of course some positions are more checked than others (law enforcement officer is more checked than an administrative clerk).

            Hi Cayita
The guy has a top secret assignment and even his bestfriend was interviewed. Since the girl is a foreign national do you think they will ask for her A#? Tho she has pending papers for labor cert? will they deport her? thank you so much for your replies. god bless !

His best friends was interview because that guy gave her name. You see, when you fill the papars for your background check you have to say where you live for the past 10 years or so. You also have to give names of persons who can verify that, and names of people who know you for a long period of time. They interview the friends and ask them questions about the applicant: how do you know him? have you meet his parents/spouse/kids? Did he cause any trouble? Basically, they want to verify information and find skeletons in his closet.

Maybe one of the interviewed friends will ask if he is dating someone. If the asnwer is yes, they may keep asking for how long, if you have met her, and what does she do. If they ask, is she legally in the USA, the most expected answer will be "I dont know". A girlfriend's status wont be take into consideration, specially if she is from a "harmless" country.

It is very unlekely that the federal agency doing the background check on an applicant reports to INS this applicant's girlfriend.
