  • Paradox for Philippines as Chinese set up shop

According to Teresita Ang-See, an expert on Chinese in the Philippines, there are 80,000-100,000 illegal or overstaying Chinese nationals in the country. The trend has created an immigration paradox. The Philippines, perhaps best-known in recent years for its outgoing migrants, has become a destination for immigrants in its own right.

      What is the paradox?
With 1,306,313,812 people in China (July 2005 est.) and 522.525 (more than half million) migrating out of the country each year , where wouldn't you expect to see them ?

Chinese immigrants generally have a high regard for education, and are entrepreneurial in spirit. Furthermore, they have a high degree of assimilation. Perhaps the Philippines would like to swap us for some of our recent immigrants?

The next great wave of migration may well be headed towards far eastern asian countries with booming economies/industries and incresing need for skilled as well as unskilled labor.
