  • Contacting Senator when your case has exceeded processing times.

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there has ever contacted their state senator when their case has exceeded the processing times shown. I called the 1-800-misinformation line and kept getting "your case will take....blah blah blah", so I faxed a letter to my senator explaining my case and that I filed on June 30,05 and they are currently processing applications for N-400 with receipt dates of November 29, 2005. This was 10 days ago when I faxed this letter. How long does it usually take to get a response? Will contacting my senator really speed things along? The NOA letter clearly states to contact USCIS if the processing dates exceed your case by 30days. I did this because it exceeded my time by 5 months. Any thoughts or has anyone else had experiences with this?

In someplaces it works very well in other places it does not work well at all. The Vermont Service Center, in my experience, responds well to letters from senators. The Nebraska Service Center, again in my experience, does not.

I don't know about the other serv. centers.

My service center is in Charlotte, NC and was just wondering if anyone else has had their N-400 applications processed in a timely manner. (Before the processing times shown anyways...Nov 29, 05). People who have applied way after me have their NATZ appts already, so I am wondering what is going on??

Charlotte is not a service center but a local office. Two schools of thought pervade when it comes to contacting ones Senator:

One is that the office will heed the Senators call to speed things up.

The other is that they will resent such an intrusion and put your application on the bottom of the pile

A bureaucrat is a very powerful foe when they hold your life in their "in box".

Thanks for the information. I can see it from both sides you pointed out. I guess I will just wait and see if I have created any damage for my case or sped it up.
