      SSN?
Your original SSN will remain assigned to you and linked through SSA computer systems to the new number. The new SSN will be cross-referred to the old number for integrity reasons and so that earnings can be properly credited. SSA does not void, delete or cancel SSNs.

        Hi
We got our GCards but cannot shift right away to the US. So we are now in India. We were told that we would be assigned a SSN along with the GC but it hasent con as yet.
Any suggestions how I can get one - my son has to apply for FAFSA and I need to electronically sign his application but for that I need my SSN

What a stupid man you are !

Call the agency that administers FAFSA (Dept. of Edu.) , they have relevant numbers on FAFSA webpage and applications, and ask whether your SSN is mandatory and what can you do if you lack one due to circumstances beyond your control.

          Go from there.

NO. Your SS number stays with you forever. But if yours has a letter A before SS, then you may want to change it. A S S doesn't sound good.

Then, you don't have to blow your whistle. You can work with your GC and not change your SS.

As far as I know, your social security number stays with you FOREVER....unless you ask and requeire a new one.People who are scared of certain people,or changed their name and idenity etc are granted a new ss number.

But the avarge person SS is always the same, regardles if you a gc or citizen later or what not.
I got my SS number when I only was a student many many years ago...just because I am now RESIDENT does not change my number.

PS: even if you get a new number, that would not change your credit history really, you just have to let the credit agancies know and all.

Credit history and credit report is largely based on the SS number you provide. So, if you change your SS number, that could be an issue on your credit history.

                      SSN?

Who told you that? This is incorrect. There should not have been a new social security number issued. This was a mistake. Computer will not automatically link those numbers unless you tell Soc Security administration to do so for the earnings to go to the same individual.

You may not be in possesion of two ssn. You are in a situation that lot of alien would love to be in and have been in. this happens quite often. Go to SS Administration and see which one they wish you to cease using. It will be the one that they link with your IRS file that they will have you keep.

Dont hold on to both and invite temptation .

Is it true that whistleblowing in work place is protected by law? I'm directing this question to whistleblower.

My Social Security card says my number, like anyone else and then it says "Authorize to work, with work permit"

does anyone has a green card, that just shows the social security number only?

You mean is there a type of GC that would allow one to apply for and get SS without restrictions?
