The next step is more likely another internal inquiry, which usually won't do you any good.
Time to contact the local congressman/senator's office for a congressional inquiry.

we called the service center a third time about our familys n400 application (we have applied at april 2004 got fingerprinted at 2004 but did not receive anyhing else. currently they are processing january 2005) the people at the service center has no idea why we don't even get a response to our status check/referal requests. Now we have made the third request. We again have to wait for a month.
Does anybody have any idea what is the reason for this?
Secondly service center told us to call back in a month if we don't receive anything and they will tell us the "next step" that we have to do abour our case. What is the "next step" that they are talking about? any ideas?Leave a comment:
