Like I said, freedom of speech guarantees your right to voice your opinion, be it insulting the illegals or the president of USA.
It doesn't, however, shield you from ppl treating you like a moron or alienating you for the very same belief.

I don't think you could get away with insulting the President of the USA or a cop, for example. We say there's freedom of speach, and for the most part, there is but try insulting a police officer and see where it will lead you: in jail! And the President? Well, I'd be curious to see how the repercutions!

The freedom of speech is censored on a daily basis on TV, when people say a word that is not acceptable by society's standards, it doesn't get to air, same with the radio so... I'm not so sure you can say anything you want to anyone you please.

Please, many people insult the president on a daily basis, from Ted Kennedy to your local college professor.

Sure you can. Ever seen the KKK rally? or a Aryan Brotherhood, and the amount of hatred and insult spewed out during those? And you can say whatever you want. Now if the radio/tv decided not to air it, thats well within their right too, I'm sure they sign an agreement beforehand.

Then you'll probably got slammed by disrespect to the court or something like that. Like I said, you're free to say whatever you want. It doesn;t protect you from the repercussion from the other parties.

Then you're not really free to say whatever you want if there are repercussions for what you apparently have the right to say. And when I mentioned that you can't insult the President, I should have been more specific: you can't insult him to his face, same goes to a judge, like Pascal stated, or a police officer.

To use your example, the KKK can say what they want, as long as it's within its group. If they were to go too far on the medias or other public arenas, they'd get slammed for it, and with good reasons!

              You're playing with words Marmaduk.

The freedom of speech guarantee your right to say whatever your want madam. Here's an exrcept directly from the 1st amendment:
"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

                Here's one from ACLU:
"The First Amendment exists precisely to protect the most offensive and controversial speech from government suppression."

Can't be any clearer than that isn't it? Now if some overzealous govt or member of the armed forces decides to took offense of that and initiate something within their right as repercusions, well tough, its authorized by law too.

"To use your example, the KKK can say what they want, as long as it's within its group. If they were to go too far on the medias or other public arenas, they'd get slammed for it, and with good reasons!"
They'll be critized and ridicule by the media/other parties just like I stated previously, but are they forbidden to say what they stated?? Who's grasping at straws here?

You can write excerpts all you want...just because they're in the constitution doesn't mean they're always applied in every day life! They are there in theory but in practice, that's another story.

Besides China and the communist countries, I've never seen so much censorship than right here in the US. So people have a right to say what they want, yes, but their message may actually be covered or edited so that no one can hear it. Ok enough said... I've had it with this debate.
