Sorry - the second list (half way through ) are songwriters.

I suspect the easiest way to get to the US is to be a Canadian musician.

How many are now USC? Those that are should be removed from the list as they are no longer Canadian.

Strange thing about modern immigration. People want to come to the U.S. for all its benefits but still want to consider themselves "members" of their former country. This is SO different from the way immigration used to be. Go to the immigration museum on Ellis Island. People who came through there were Americans and often would not associate themselves with their foreign country.

Actually, many are still living in Canada and some have residency and homes in both countries. Most have not taken out American citizenship - but they can be dual. One can have dual citizenship. The door goes both ways - just as many American artists benefit from the Canadian film and music industry.

You may not understand it - but we are proud of our country and the fact that we are Canadian. We can travel much more easily to other countries which Americans cannot even enter. You have no idea what it is like to be greeted in a foreign country with a smile and respect.
I have had a green card for 40 years - I never have to be American.

When one comes to America, one is expected to melt in a big pot ("The Melting Pot")and take on the androgynous shape of all other Americans. In Canada, we consider ourselves a multi-cultural society - and so when one comes to Canada, one is not expected to give up their culture or belief systems.

I am sure you will have something tacky to say about this too.

You may not understand it, but Americans are proud of their country, despite its "leadership" and misguided policies. For all its flaws, I'd rather be here than "there".

The fact that you have continued to have a green card is a good indication that you're still an outsider looking in in many ways. America has and does expect immigrants to adapt to its language, its key values, and its public behavior. But aside from these, no one is compelled to "give up" their culture. It's just that we don't believe we should be compelled to give up ours to accommodate people who voluntarily choose to come here, or place the cultures of others above or even on a par with ours in our country.

And how is that "multi-cultural" society working for Canada? Quebec came close to seceding a few years ago. Canada itself recognizes the active presence of a number of terrorist groups that use it as a staging base for activities overseas and in the US. Canada itself has no identity on the world stage except being "not America"--and many of "its" immigrants use it as a steppingstone for immigrating to the U.S.
My own grandmother immigrated to the U.S.--after initially going to Canada.

Tell me, too, please--just how is Canada faring with immigrants from cultures which do not believe in religious tolerance? Who believe that women are to be kept at home, and beaten if they get out of line? Who consider marriage with pubescent girls perfectly acceptable? And marriage by capture (kidnapping and rape) also "culturally" justified? Who consider plural marriage (and throwing the "extra" families onto welfare) a religious right? Just how does Canada plan to deal with the issue of having large numbers of people who speak Chinese or Spanish? Is it going to compel them to learn English and French? And if Canada is so "open" to cultural diversity, just how is it that the job ads I saw a few years ago expressly said that preference was given to Canadian citizens and landed immigrants? Then, too, from what I've heard, Canada's points system for immigration makes it tougher for people to legally immigrate to Canada than to the U.S. so I'd guess that they don't have the same issues with poorly educated unskilled immigrants that our policy produces.

By all means, keep your green card and never become a US citizen. Citizenship requires commitment and loyalty, which you obviously don't have to the U.S.
