renew visa or apply for green card?

My parents came to the U.S. in October of 2000 and applied for a visa which they received in September of 2001. It expires in September of 2006.(the visa says: "Visa Type/Class: R E2, don`t know what kind it is) They got the Visa thru a Restaurant, my mother is a chef. Now, the Restaurant got sold and they moved here to KY with us. They leased a Restaurant here and now here`s the question. Can they apply for a green card or renew or apply for a new visa (if yes what type?). Does it help if their grandson is a US citizen? (hes only 2 months tho).

Their granson cannot sponsor them because he is under 18. You probably need to contact an immigration attorney on this one. What you have given is not enough information to go by.

If they're not still working for the business which brought them over, then they'll probably have to apply for an investor's visa on their own.
