oh my gosh, thank lord i have check this question...all the answers are wrong and non sence and its amazing how anyone can even type that s-h-i-t.

    Are you guys mental????

    Virus,
listen to me my man.To go to canada, your greencard is not gonna do s.h.i.t. Your green card is based on the US has nothing to do with Canada, just like your US green card would not matter if you go to germany england, italy etc etc.
ALL your green card does is show you are US resident.PERIOD...and you need to show it when you return to the US...showing your green card to a foreign country makes no sence AT ALL...

So,depending from what country aka citizenship you are,you have to have a valid passport and if you are from a non EU country you will need a tourist visa for canada.

And for the record, starting mid 2007 anyone, even US citizen will need a passport to enter Canada. And only US citizen can enter currently with a drivers license to Canada, anyone else who shows a US licens eot enter canada is pretending to be US Citizen to the Canadien costum'.

Anyway, as of mid 2007 any US citizen will only be allowed to enter canada, and any other country, even Mexico with a US passport.
You don't believe me? check go the www.gov.com
    and entere the passport section

So if every US citzien can only enter canada and mexico with a PASSPORT only,by mid 2007...any non citizen always have to show their passport to any country anytime...unless like i said,u show you license and pretend to be us citizen, because thats what mexican and canadien costum assume mostly. But if you get cought about this lie, its a federal offense and the rest is history

If you are flying into Canada, then yes you need an unexpired passport (they stamp it). If you are driving, it depends, but you are still better off taking your passport, you don't want to be turned away at the border crossing.

Your green card is enough; not much for entering Canada since you can just present your US driver license but for your re-entry to the US. But of course a passport is always much better. Canada is less strict and more tolerant than the US.

Hey all, long time no see. I got my greencard through marriage to my citizen wife. I have an expired passport. Do I need a passport and visa to go to Canada for the weekend, or is my greencard sufficient enough?
