    Keep in mind that when they go in for an interview, they will need to prove that they are married, with documentation. If they feel that they can live apart and still provide emough evidence to lie to immigration and say they are still married then no one would ever know.

    A friend is currently completing her I-485 adjustment of status petition through an Employment Visa. Her husband is the derivative beneficiary.
    After many years of marriage she is considering separation/ divorce, but does not want to jeapadize her husband's chances of receiving a greencard in the end.
    They understand that they cannot get divorced before the process is finalised, however may they separate and live apart?
