  • I-485 approved, what now?

    hi,

i just rec'd my approval notice for my I-485. in the notice it says i should get my actual "green" card in few months. my question is, do i need to make appt with the service center to get finger print or photos? because in my notice it didnt' ask me to do that, it just said if i need to travel i should make an appt to get my passport stamp. also, does anyone know the time frame as to when i will be rec'ing my card in the mail? my service center is in san jose, california.

    thanks!

Yeh, you need to make an appointment so that they can stamp either your passport or I-94. Also, they need your photos for your plastic GC.

What was your Notice of Receipt Date?

        thanks for the reply GINO,

the notice i rec'd is from the local office where i had my interview. the approval date is oct 27, 04. on my notice it says if i need to travel i can make an appt to get my passport stamp. since i will not be travelling outside the country anytime soon do i still need to get my passport stamp? also, on my notice it didn't say anything about getting my photos taken for my plastic GC. so your advise is for me to go and make appt anyway?

Is this a marriage-based I-485? If so, and you've had your AOS interview, you don't need to visit the office. If this is employment-based then you do need to go to the office to get processed for the I-89.

Yes, an I-89 needs to be completed in order to produce the green card. You should have had your index finger printed (front and back) and you should have signed the I-89 (front and back). Have you done this?

i am not sure i have or not. i did go to a service center for finger printing (along with signature and photos) for my i-485 before my interview appt. it is one of those NOA for finger printing. but on the NOA it didn't mention aobut I-89.

The form you signed where they get you to sign inside a small rectangular box is the I-89. Sounds to me like you've already been processed for the I-551.

Did you get a receipt number on your approval notice? If so, you can enter the number and see if you have been processed for the I-89.

                  Receipt Number: EAC*********

Application Type: CRI89, CONDITIONAL RESIDENCE I-89 CARD RECEIVED AT SERVICE CENTER

                  Current Status:

This case has been approved. On September 21, 2004, an approval notice was mailed. If 14 days have passed and you have not received this notice, you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

                    thanks for your help sphyrapicus3!

yes, when i did the finger printing in the processing center the lady there did ask me to sign my name in the some small rectangular box. i also sign again when i arrived at the interview.

i dont' think the letter i rec'd has a receipt number. it just have the approval date. i can check again when i get home later tonight.
