russian marriage undo

Hello,
I hope someone can help me with this simple yet complex question. My fiance and I are Canadian citizens, he went to Russia in Nov, 1999 and married a Russian woman in a church service in Archangeles. They met again in Cuba Mar, 2000 and decided the relationship would not work out. They have had no contact since. My fiance and I have 5 children between the 2 of us and my concern is whether or not we can legally marry. My other concern is can this Russian woman show up one day and take everything we have built for our children? Whether we decide to go ahead and marry or not, I really need the answers to these questions so we can take the appropriate steps to a divorce or having the marriage annulled. I would appreciate any information anyone can give me on this matter.

as i know, i'm from former USSR,the church ceremonyin Russia can not be done without
civil ceremony before, it's mean that U have
to go thru all paper to be done- divorce civil
marreage in Russia, otherwise U'll have your
next marreage not right.
