Four Marines, who recently returned from combat duty in Iraq, were attacked on a street in San Juan Capistrano this past Thursday by a gang of 12 men. A local source indicates that the attackers were Latino.

One of the Marines was in critical condition in a local hospital after receiving 7 stab wounds. Another was also in the hospital with 4 stab wounds.

The Orange County Register (which is very PC when it comes to minorities) printed the following description of the 12 suspects: "12 males, described as having shaved heads and possibly being gang members." Notice anything missing from that description? [See article... link may expire on/about 8/6/03]

The Register carried photos of the two hospitalized Marines and both appear to be white. Had these two Marines been Latino and the 12 attackers white, we'd be hearing questions about a racial motive in this crime. Instead, no one seems to want to bring that subject up. Interesting.

So far, the police have made no arrests in this attack.

Where is the national outrage? How is it that our troops can come back safe from Iraq only to be attacked by street terrorists right here in this country? What do you want to bet that some of these Latinos or their parents are illegal aliens? Why is the Bush administration fighting terrorism thousands of miles away, yet letting street terrorists attack our servicemen right here at home?

Come on President Bush, the real terrorists are the criminals who you are letting invade this country from Mexico and points south. They are attacking and killing U.S. citizens and they are destroying this nation.
Why are you letting this madness continue?

Because these Marines are employed by the federal government, the FBI should be called in to hunt down these street terrorists and bring them to justice. The local cops don't appear to be up to the task, and the trail will only get colder the longer these criminals are allowed to run free.

Hey Acelaw. Did you ever hear of the Zuit Suit Riots? You know what they were? A giant gang of white navy servicemen from all over the United States stormed LA, where they beat, killed, and maimed hundreds of US born Latino teenagers and young men.

San Juan Capistrano – The flowers for the wounded Marine came with an apology.

As he lay in a hospital bed Friday, his body swimming in drugs and his back and stomach punctured with seven stab wounds, Carter Caroom, 23, heard from many strangers who were sorry.

"This entire community has been very supportive," said a groggy Caroom, a native of Austin, Texas, who survived Iraq unscathed. But not Orange County.

Caroom and three Marine buddies, combat veterans who returned from the Persian Gulf less than three weeks ago, were attacked early Thursday while walking down a deserted street in San Juan Capistrano.

They were wearing street clothes. But all sport military- style haircuts and walk with "that Marine swagger," as one victim's mother put it.

At about 12:20 a.m., as many as 12 males, described as having shaved heads and possibly being gang members, jumped out of two cars after exchanging words with the Marines, sheriff's deputies said.

At least two of the assailants had knives, police said. The attackers remain at large.

Although authorities don't believe the Marines were targeted because they are in the military, some residents were outraged at the attack.

"I'm humiliated for this country and for this town," said Patti Forsgren, 68, a six-year resident of San Juan Capistrano. "I don't know how the citizens can make it up to these Marines."

Ginny Vincent, 71, sat at a Starbucks near the crime scene Friday afternoon. Her husband, Hal, is a retired Marine major general.

"We're horrified, because we're Marines," Vincent said. "My husband had a fit when he heard about this."

Another resident, Roberta Malcho, sitting nearby, said she'd like to hear both sides of the story before weighing in.

"Just because there's a knife fight in my town doesn't mean I'm outraged (that those hurt were Marines)," she said. "I'd like to get all the facts - just like in the Kobe Bryant case.''

Many strangers sent flowers and notes to Caroom and Randall Roach, 22 - the other Marine seriously injured in the attack. Roach was stabbed four times, in the back and arm, and was taken with Caroom to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

The other two Marines – Steve Brown, 22, and Jason Mack, 27 – escaped with minor cuts and scratches.

Caroom, Roach, Brown and Mack are mortar men attached to the 15th Expeditionary Unit at Camp Pendleton. They left for the Persian Gulf on the USS Tarawa in January and returned home July 12.

"The worst part of this is," said Caroom, "is that we all made it back from Iraq without a scratch, and then this happens."

The crime occurred in front of a video store at Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo, a downtown corner bustling in the day but nearly deserted at midnight.

The four spent the evening at Swallows Inn.

None of them was familiar with the city. A friend had just moved there, and the plan was to sleep at his place.

Around midnight, the four got hungry and went out on foot. As they walked to a fast-food restaurant, a car with three or four men inside passed the Marines. Someone in the green Honda yelled at them.

"They were trying to lure us into a fight," Caroom said.

"OK, if you want to fight, we can do that," one of the Marines responded.

Asked if he felt they were targeted because they are Marines, Caroom said: "I think that might have had something to do with it.''

The men in the Honda said they would return and, minutes later, they came back with another car containing as many as eight males.

They jumped out of the cars and began attacking them, the Marines said.

"They were all over us," Roach said. "You couldn't figure out half the time what was happening."

Bloodied and dazed, the four managed to get away from their attackers and compress each other's wounds before paramedics arrived. San Juan Capistrano is not considered a dangerous area for off-duty Marines, said Capt. Chris Logan, a Camp Pendleton spokesman. Police said the location of the attack is ordinarily safe. Before Thursday, the city had had only one knife attack this year. For the same period last year, there were four. Rachel Roach, Randall's mother, drove from Palmdale to visit her son in the hospital.

She said he hasn't discussed the attack in detail. He normally doesn't talk much, she said.

Coping while her son was in Iraq was "really tense and emotional," Rachel Roach said.

But how her son and his friends cope with being stabbed could be just as difficult, she said.

"They'll probably have more bad dreams about this than about Iraq - dreams about a knife flashing before their eyes," she said.

Sweetie, do you have a CLUE how many of our servicemen and women are Latino, and are fighting and dying for the likes of you and other TRUE BLUE (or should I say WHITE) Americans in god-forsaken countries around the world?

Really, Acelaw, I sympathize with your money problems, but a) you're not the only one who has them, b) you don't speak for all of US white US born American citizens, and c) your unilateral xenophobia is getting really, really old.

I have no problems with Latino's in general, you all make the case for hate, not me, I have a problem with any person who is in this country illegally, there just happens to be the most from Mexico, I can't change the Demographics, I have every right and the law on my side, not to mention the FACTS so i understand you must attack me personally because you have no leg to stand on. So be my guest because your opinion has no baring on my life what so ever. Your corrupt and your karma will catch up to you.But you do bring up an interesting point, they can get expedited citizenship if they serve in the military, lets see 11 million in country only 2254 have done so, they are not here to help us, they send our wages out of this country, they do not plan on staying here, get it yet. We are just the chumps to pay for this, NOT ON MY WATCH.got to love this, get the point yet?

The American Hispanic Coalition Proposes Federal Legislation Providing Assurance of Public Benefits for All Persons Living in the USA
July 21, 2003 -- As part of the American Hispanic Coalition 2004 Election Strategy, www.Hispanic.bz, focusing on issues that have a direct impact on Hispanics, American Hispanic today included as part of its platform the need to have federal legislation approved mandating all benefits received by residents of each state be available to all persons living within each state. The legislation would prohibit state and local officials to verify immigration status for anyone who applies for "public benefits."
The federal legislation would also prohibit state and local officials to verify immigration status or proof of citizenship every time someone casts an election ballot, and would prohibit state or local officials to report any suspected illegal immigrants to federal authorities.
The inclusion of Assurance of Public Benefits was added after review of what is happening in several states and specifically Arizona, which has launched an initiative drive for a proposed state law to discourage illegal immigration.
The Arizona proposal would require state and local officials to verify immigration status for anyone who applies for "public benefits." The initiative also would require proof of citizenship every time someone casts an election ballot, and would make it a crime for state or local officials to fail to report any suspected illegal immigrants to federal authorities.
Several Arizona lawmakers bluntly described the initiative as discrimination against Mexicans and other Hispanics.

"What drives them is race, there is no other explanation for what they are doing today," said Rep. Ben Miranda, D-Phoenix.
According to Jon Garrido, president of the American Hispanic Coalition, "Support forthcoming in the 2004 presidential election will be given to which ever presidential candidate commits to accepting the American Hispanic Coalition Platform and gives assurance the candidate will promote passage of said legislation in Congress."
Garrido added, "Of nearly equal importance will be the Democratic candidate and President Bush promoting defeat of the Arizona initiative."

Not quite the way you posted it , is it,? Of course not, you must dig something up from the 1940's to rationalize your lack of character today, my aren't we desperate.

                Clothing
The Zoot Suit was worn by Chicano men mostly. The style was very neat and beautiful. The Zoot Suit is padded on the shoulders. Suit coats were baggy and the pants drapped at the ankle. The hair was combed in a ducktail fashion. The complete wardrobe would usually include a lid or hat that was very big, and shoes with extra thick soles. It was very fashionable at the time to wear a chain hanging from the pants that could be seen while wearing the Zoot Suit coat. There was a similary unique style that was worn by pachucas who combed their hair in a pompadour fashion, and sported short skirts. The pachucos were remembered for having fought alongside their partners during the Los Angeles street fights of 1943. The young women were characterized as having been delinquent and a morally lacking for having been in the company of pachucas. The style would go with an attitude at times. Some people would stereotype the pachucos and pachucas as criminals. They would always carry knifes and bike chains. The Zoot Suit was just a style of dressing. Now the style is coming back again.

                Zoot Suit Riots
                .
The history of the Zoot suit Riots is about the racism we had in the 1940's. How did this whole thing started. Well it started by Chicanos dressing in a different way. They called it the Zoot Suits. In June 1943 Mexican Americans in L.A. became victims of mob violence. For several nights young Mexican Americans were attacked and beaten by hundreds of white sailors desirous of meting out "VENGANGE" for a fistfight that had occurred between some navy men and local chicano youths. Los Angeles Police did not interfere and no sailors were arrested. The young Mexican Americans, called pachucos, were publicized at the time as reckless gangs, but they are currently remembered more as defenders of their neighborhoods, families, and racial pride. What caused it. Sailors were very jealous of people who were here at home. They basically went after the one's who were dressed in the zootsiut. When the sailors would come home they would go to the bars and drink get drunk and go and find some zootsuiters. They would hire some cabs to go through the streets to find the zootsuiters. The sailors would beat them and sometimes stripped them down leaving them naked and bleeding in the middle of the street. The police would arrest the one's who were wearing the zootsuit.
