Hi, I don't have much good news for you. If you initially entered on Crewmen in Transit (C-1D) visa, then you are ineligible to adjust status in the U.S. You asked about whether it could be argued that your work was with the onshore company and not abroad the ship. I think that's probably not a winning argument. I think you should still file the I-130 and may have to do counselor processing, which would require you to get the waiver for the 10-yr bar to reentry.
