  • how long is the wait (129f) for consulate interview

    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can advise as to how long it takes after the bcis agree our application (129f) for the interview to be scheduled with the consulate(in this case..london).......i presume now that we have started this process i cant just go to US and marry my fiancee then seek to adjust status? its just that this fiancee thing is taking so long and really i would be happy to marry her right now.....any adice will be greatly appreciated...i know we are getting closer and i want to make sure i do everything correctly....i dont want to do anything that isnt correct...i intend staying in the US for the rest of my life....

once your file gets to Natl Visa Center, they send you a notice, advising beneficiary name and embassy name/address. Once it leaves usa it takes about 1 week to get cabled over. From there it should only take approx 3 months to interview. No you cant come over and adjust status since you have begun the K process. You have immigrant intent which is violation of law. If you were already here and got married on spur of the moment, then you could have adjusted, but still best to finish it the legal way.

please note the immigration folks at POE know that a K visa is pending. I've heard of others from Britain able to come on the waiver thingy, but some have gotten a hard time at POE, and they have been known to turn you around back to England. You have to be able to prove strong ties to your homeland, with rental lease of apt, job letter, bank statements etc which would prove you have intent to return to your country while the visa is pending.

The London Embassy is very efficient and you probably will not have to wait 3 months for the interview. I have seen many people go from approval to the interview in 1 1/2 to 2 months - good luck.

To be honest, Mute, if you think that you'll get approved next month, given that you are going through Nebraska and you just applied in Sept., you're kidding yourself. As I remember, Nebraska is still working on applications from July. Granted it is late July, but I'm in contact with folks on another newsgroup that are still waiting for approval and they applied in May of '03. I think the quickest approval I've seen come out of Nebraska is 6 months.

You may get lucky and get through quicker, but I'm just trying to help you be more realistic. It took us 144 days to get through Texas. Texas is about the same timeline as Nebraska. From the time that we were approved (beginning of Jan) to the time we get an interview is going to be about 2 months.

You can come visit during this time period, but just brings lots of proof that you plan on going back. My fiance visited twice on the VWP and never had any issues - he wasn't even asked for his proof, but he brought it nonetheless. I know it's tough being separated, but it'll all be worth it in the end!

                    Good Luck,
                    Sunny

thanks anyway for putting some realism to my hopes...just so miss my honey.......just like everyone else here huh.....hopefully london embassy will be quick...
                      thanks all...again..

The waiting time for an interview can vary.
I send in my 1-129f to Nebraska April 28th. I was approved August 12, 2003. I then had to get my local congressperson involved as they waited 8 weeks to mail my paperwork to NVC. Then it took another 2-3 weeks for it to get to Frankfurt, Germany. Then they stated that they were waiting for fingerprint results from the US..that took another 2-3 weeks. During that time the Consulate demanded another 1-134 Affidavit of Support, even though the doc that I sent was dated August 25, they said that it was "expired" My fiance finally got an interview date for Feb 11th...about 5 months after we were approved and nearly 10 months after we began the process. It can vary..from what I hear, I was just unlucky after I got approved. Good luck to you on the wait that you have coming, but if the love is strong, you can bear it. I have not seen my fiance for 1 yr & 2 days now. Cross your fingers for me that everything goes o.k. with his interview.

I applied through Nebraska July 16th and would have been approved December 31st but they needed more info - my fault - so it would have been 168 days but ended up 203 on Jan 15th. It's really hard to predict. It was received at the National Visa Center last Friday, Jan 23rd. I hope that helps a little. Good luck
