Today I called the US Embassy in the capital city, and my passport was authorized and will be sent on next week. That's good news because my US passport expires on Monday! God bless the DOS! Now I can transfer my residence visa to my new passport and I'll be set until 2013! I haven't lived in the USA since 1969! Moral of the story: apply 3 months in advance if you don't want to pay an expediting service rip-off.
By the way, my daughter got married to a local lad 3 weeks ago, yesterday she went to the US Embassy with her husband and his son from a former marriage, and they were given a date in early December, that's a 5 month wait for I-130 appointment. Beginning next week, citizens who are not resident in this country can no longer apply here for I-130; in the future people will have to do it from the USA. Man, I', happy to be getting my new passport, and I'll tell you more when I pick it up at the nearby US consular agency next week.
