There are many jobs for nurses in the US, as we are having a nursing shortage. You should look on the first page of the ILW website on how to get the credentials needed for working here in the US.
I do not condone people working illegally here, but at the same time, it is a good idea if you are "seeking and hopefully finding a sponsor for" employment on your VWP. This way, you can go back and hopefully come to the US on the proper visa and work.
