My SEVIS I-20 is expiring and I am only 9 credit hours from graduating.
I went to the 'Int. Students Affairs' Office and was told that my I-20 can only be extended 30 days before it expires. Furthermore, the extension might be denied even though I have been a full time student with a perfect GPA and that the decision to grant the extension is not made by the DOS, but by real people at the INS office that examine my application and my entire history in the US.
This is not what I read in the SEVIS rules published in the Federal Register. I though that the new SEVIS I-20 can be extended at any time and the extension is at the sole discretion of the DOS.
Does my school know what it is talking about or do I need to hire a lawyer?
Thank you very much for your advice :-)
