  • Visa Waiver - Denial of entry

    Hi everyone,

I have a strange situation. My friend is suposed to come visit me in the US. He has dual citizenship, one with a country that is eligible under the visa waiver program, one with a country that is not. My friend then went to the american consulate (in the non waiver country) and applied for a tourist visa. My friend's application was denied (I guess he couldn't really prove his case that he's coming back, even though he's coming for just two weeks and already had the tickets to prove it - they didn't care...). When my friend told me I was very surprized that he even tried to get a visa because he could get in the US with the other passport. My question is therefore, given the visa denial, should he expect any problems in the POE coming in under the visa waiver program?

    Thanks for your help.

Someone12 is correct. There is more to the denial than the flight tickets. You should probably let us know what the reasons for the denial were.

Thanks for the responses. My friend was unemployed at the time he applied for the visa. They were concerned that he won't leave the US after entry (i.e. coming here to look for a job, etc.). My friend does work now, and can prove it (employment letter, paystub, etc.) Will he need to explain that at the POE? Can I do anything to help him?

        Thanks again.

Thanks very much Someone12. This helps a lot. I will talk to my friend and advise him to just be honest.
