AOS (AC21) Portibility

Would like to hear from anyone who may have gone through this process ie changed job after 180 days waiting for AOS under the employment base Green card sponsor.
What procedure did you follow?
How did you inform the INS? Is it necessary to inform INS before the interview date? or just inform the INS during the interview with the supporting information.
What would be the required supporting information.
I know the new job must be in a 'similar' position but what about the salary requirements?? What if the new offered salary is much lower than the original one on which all the approval was made?
Any detailed info on this anywhere on the web??
