What are the dangers with working illegally with a "fake" ss#?

I hear lot of people do it since they take the taxes right of the paycheck.

    Are there any real dangers?

Plus will this haunt me if I happen to get an amnesty in the future? (ie. the DREAM Act)

the danger comes when you get caught.
If there will be an amnesty in the future, u won't have to worry then, cuz what is amnesty for if u will not be forgiven by this ?

Get a job which is paid in cash (restaurants and construction immediatly come to mind, don't they), look for small startup businesses because they are the ones willing to take the risk and hire you. You'll have much more chances in big cities with big immigrant population, the more foreigners around you the better... Eventualy, there will be a light on the end of the tunnel (at least I hope there will be such for me)and you will get your papers in order... You'll wake up one morning saying the Pledge of Allegiance together with bunch of other foreigners that were hiding and hopping around just like you...
Good luck Student and give a feedback of what you did...

You wanna know the consequences? I was picked up by the INS as Iwas working off campus on famke Socail card. I did have a number but without authorization...

I was just working to pay off my tution. I was sent into proceedings. Am still in proceedings.. Was out on 2500 hundred bond!

Please learn from my example! DONT DO IT! Just a simple mistake costed me so much.

Had to pend 5 days in detention!

              Thanks for all the replies:

I live in a small town so cash job is extremely rare...

Well, that light in a tunnet is the Student Adjustment Act/Dream Act, and hopefully they'll pass this 108th session..

I'm sure there are always risks of being caught, but from what I hear, the department of immigration doesn't bother you unless you stir up some kind of a trouble with a criminal record and what not.

I hear so many undocumented people are paying taxes... and there's no way to do that unless you're working with a fake ss#... so I don't see that much of a risk - then again, i haven't done anything yet.

It wasn't a problem before. But a lot has changed since 9-11 and now they are going to start the process of traking people down. At least that's what I've read on this board and elsewere. I still think that the BCIS doesn't have enough employees to go tracking everyone down, though. Also, I would think being in a small, remote town would be better. A lawyer told my husband to stay away from areas with large immigrant populations as those are the first places that they check. Good luck. We are waiting for an amnesty too. :-)

I lived in a small town! And I got caught! I had no Criminal record. My only fault was that I am from Pakistan and since september 11th all people from some countries are being closely watched!

When they sent me to detention. The people there wouldnt believe that they detained me for this! I was celled with a Drug dealer who was caught with 500,000 worth of illegal drugs.

And what was my crime? Working off campus without authorization!

Please you do whatever you feel is better for you but I a advise you not to do it!

Hopefully thanks to my wife, I will be able to adjust status and perhaps work again!

Hehe tell me! When I was in detention there was this palestinian guy who actually KILLED people, (as far as he told us) I was there for an overstay! I was like "O.K. I will be leaving now"
