I am American and I'm engaged to an egyptian man. I have a few questions. My first question is what are the requirements for marrying in Egypt. We are not doing the orfi marriage. We are getting married at the Ministry of Justice. But, I don't know the requirements. I would really like to get married here in America. . I have researched the culture of Egypt and we will live here in America. What are some of the things I should be aware of while I'm there? I plan to be there for about two weeks. And then he is planning on following me here to America. Your insight would be helpful. My fiancee has not fulfilled his military obligations...if I go there and marry him will he still have to go to the military?? Will this prevent us from marrying? I researched and found out that if we marry before then he won't have to go. Also can someone please help me with information about the fiancee visa and what it entails will he have to go to the military if we marry before or will he have to go to the military first?: I have researched and I found that we can't marry if he is in the military. And can someone please explain to me or give me information about marrying by proxy?PLEASE HELP!!!

Well, your post is a little confusing to me. First you say you don't know about his military obligations and then you said you researched and he won't have to go if you marry first then you said something else about it... Fiance visa is K-1 and that is what you use if you want him to come here and marry here. K-3 is what you file if you are going to marry there. With K-3 you file the I-130 with the appropriate service center. Once you get notice of receipt you send copy of that with I-129f and required documents to Chicago service center. Here are some links that might help you... Good luck. Oh, about forgot, there's the possibility of filing through the consulate and not doing the K-3. I don't know if Egypt does that. Some countries do and some don't. I think there is some info on some of these links about that too.

Thank you for responding. Let me clear what I stated earlier. (Was kinda nervous). My fiancee who is Egyptian has not fulfilled his military obligation. I researched and found that if we marry before he has to do this he will not have to go. He feels that I should come to Egypt and we marry at the Ministry of Justice in Cairo. He feels that the Embassy will not give him a passport if we attempt to do the fiancee visa because he has not fulfilled his military obligation. I also found out that Egypt will not let him marry a foreigner (that would be me) if he is in the military. We were researching and found information about marrying by proxy. We both know it is going to be an extremely lengthy process. However time is not on our side because of me wanting to make sure that our love was legitimate for one another time is now closing in on us because he thinks that the Egyptian military will call him in March. Stupid Stupid Stupid me.We just really want to get married and start our family the quickest way possible. From what I read the fiancee visa would be best. But, he lives there I don't. So if anyone can help us. Please Please we are begging you...Please help us. Thank you

My advise:
1. Aren't your fiancee should know better about the rules and law of his country? Ask him to check with his Commander or his Ministry of Foreign Affair about this or any related government bodies in his country.
2. Secondly, call Egypt Consulate in US and ask them in detail about your questions. They will give you the answer.
Make sure you do the research before you make big steps coz' different countries, different law. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. Yes he should know the rules in his country as I stated in my reply he does live there and I don't. But, if there is a better and easier way for us to be together..we are going to try to explore all of our options. Once again..thank you for your reply.
