I-485 Application A#

Is it possible to check the status of a I-485 application using the A# from the receipt. All I have is a small cash register tape and the A# is the only identification number on it. INS never sent me any 13 digit number like with some other types of applications. My application is filed at the regional service center in Cleveland OH. Thanks for any help.

When they sent you receipt, there is always a number on lefthand side top box which starts with three words which indicates the service center. If you have that number then you can check status online at www.immigration.gov
otherwise you must call your Service Center and talk to a customer service Representative to check status of your application by giving your A#

Thanks for your help. However, I never received a typical receipt. All I have is a 1 inch by 2 inch receipt that looks like it was done on a calculator with printable tape. I did not receive the type of notice that you normally receive with a I-130 or K-3 application. Anyone else have or know what I'm talking about? Any help is greatly appreciated. I think part of the reason I have no 13 digit number is that I did not apply for EAD at the same time. I already had one via my K-3 visa.

How do you the fee? If you paid by check, look at the back of your cancelled check from the bank. You'll see the 13 numbers somewhere there (very small letter).

Remember that the 13 number including the EAC or LIN at the front of the numbers (depends in which service center you applied).

Did you file on your own or with a lawyer? I had to call our lawyer to get our receipt number. Unfortunately I still can't check status with it as we filed at a local office, not a service center.

I have been waiting for the receipt notice on I-485 for more than 6 weeks. My lawyer told me that it might take just 2-3 weeks but it is taking longer... I heard that it is possible to find out the receipt No. on the back of the check if the transaction is made by BCIS. However it does not work for my case since the check was made under my lawyer's name.... Is it posssilbe to keep track of the receipt number by using an A#?
