DV-2003 Processing

I won DV-2003 lottary. Since I was in the states at the time, I filed my I-485 application at Newark INS Field office to change my status from H-1. I handed my application to the INS officer in October 1, however I have not received aything from INS yet. I read some comments on this board suggesting INS will not be able to complete the process by September 2003. That is pretty frustrating. Can anyone share thoughts what I should do, or how long more should I wait before really really panicking?
