In many of my comments, I have been writing about the danger that Republican politicians' obsession with the so-called Mexican border "Crisis" caused by President Biden's attempt to abandon openly racist and inhuman Trump era policies such as "Remain in Mexico" is causing to the cause of human rights and racial justice for nonwhite immigrants - and to our democracy.

But there is an even bigger danger from focusing on the Trumped-up (no pun intended) "threat" to America caused by the browning of our population (which is at the root of the GOP's hysteria over the so-called border "Crisis" allegedly caused by President Biden's more immigration-friendly policies). This threat is that focus on the supposed "dangers" of nonwhite immigration at the Mexican border is distracting attention away from the real and infinitely dangerous threat - to the continued existence of humanity.

This threat, which is often euphemistically called "Climate Change" should be more accurately known by its real name - Global Warming. To start with, Global Warming is likely to cause unprecedented increases in global migration by displaced populations.

The Brookings Institution writes:

"...the scope and scale of human migration due to climate change will test the limits of national and global governance as well as international cooperation."

Mass migration by millions of environmentally displaced people is by no means the only danger from Global Warming. The survival of humanity itself is at stake. William J. Ripple, a professor at Oregon State University and director of the Alliance of World Scientists, which has 25,000 member scientists in 180 countries, writes:

"For those who bemoan record-shattering heatwaves in the Pacific Northwest, get used to it...For those in the American West who dread wildfires, be prepared for megafires likely to be an annual occurrence. For those in the South and on the East Coast who fear the hurricane season, expect more Category 4 and Category 5 storms to be the new norm...

We must stop humanity's overexploitation of the planet if we wish to save the world for our children. That's what it will lake to give ourselves a shot, and until politicians' priorities reflect popular rhetoric, we'll keep running around in circles as our window to act closes."

Republican politicians' obsession with the so-called border "crisis" involving desperate nonwhite mainly women and children seeking to escape from violence, poverty and corruption in Central America and find safety in the US, just as the white ancestors of millions of Americans did in the 19th and 20th centuries, is a prime example of "running around in circles" while the world, quite literally, burns as a result of Global Warming.
