Steve King has TRIPLED down on his original comment to Newsmax that for every valedictorian DREAMer there are 100 smuggling drugs in from Mexico. The remark was widely condemned by GOP leaders, but Steve King, the Republican Congressman from Iowa who serves on the House Immigration Committee, stuck by his earlier remarks first in a radio interview in Iowa and then again on the House floor today.

Speaker Boehner issued a second denunciation of the remarks today:
I want to be clear, there's no place in this debate for hateful or ignorant comments from elected officials,” said Boehner, who first excoriated King’s language in a statement Tuesday night. “Earlier this week Rep. Steve King made comments that I think are deeply offensive and wrong. What he said does not reflect the values of the American people or the Republican Party.”

But Boehner is apparently either too weak or simply disinclined to do anything further about it. The Speaker has the power to remove King from the Immigration Subcommittee, for example. Several House members who openly rebelled against Boehner's leadership bid lost committee assignments so the power is there. But Boehner so fears the Tea Party wing of the party that he's likely going to do nothing which will certainly encourage King to keep making the outrageous comments.
