The Washington Post released a poll today that is consistent with several other recently released surveys in showing that the public is ready to accept a proposal along the lines being proposed in Congress. They are interested by a margin of two to one in putting immigrants currently in the US on a path to legalization while at the same time seeking tougher enforcement of immigration laws. 64% disapprove - yet it is his "comprehensive" immigration reform that you seem to support. Yes, most Americans do want "comprehensive" immigration reform. The question isn't if we want to reform immigration laws or not (clearly we do), rather how we would reform them and how you define "comprehensive". I see a trend towards enforcement even amongst Democrats (which I am).
I define comprehensive as a system that is enforcable and has strong penalties for those who break the law, but on the immigrants side separate any ties to the employer. Many here don't agree with how I define it - my point is that we all define it differently.
