Images Indian-born Renu Khator is the president of the University of Houston and the first Indian immigrant to head a major research university. Khator received a Ph.D. in political science and public administration from Purdue University and then went on to spend 20 years rising through the administration ranks at the University of South Florida. She assumed the University of Houston position in January 2008.
