Ten years ago I gave a lecture on Demjanjuk case and reported that this accused Nazi war criminal was on the verge of being deported. At that point, his case was already almost a decade old. He has since pursued every avenue of appeal - some I didn't know were possible - and managed to remain in this country all these years.
Today time ran out and at this moment, the man who is a suspect in the murder of 29,000 people at the Sobibor concentration camp is on a plane to Germany where he will face a trial - no doubt one of the last war crimes trials that will ever be conducted for Nazi atrocities.
No survivors could identify him and a guard dormitory custodian was emphatic - Demjanjuk was not at Sobibor.
This persecution has been a travesty. US prosecutors had the evidence that would have set him free and tried to destroy it...by dumping it at the Mcdonalds dumpster across the street.
The Israeli lawyers who proved his innocence...one committed "suicide" by leaving scuff marks from the tops of his shoes on top of the 15th story window sill...the other went to the funeral and was blinded with acid thrown in his face.
Shame...and US prosecutors let Jewish Nazi guards go free.
They wouldn't have pursued this if they weren't pretty confident.

"But the German government claims to have an identification card proving Demjanjuk had joined the Nazi SS and was complicit in the murder of 29,000 Sobibor inmates."
