House GOP: Rape Prevention Measures an Unreasonable Luxury

On Wednesday, as most of official Washington was fixing its gaze squarely on the Supreme Court, the House Committee on the Judiciary convened a hearing on another issue: the supposedly posh conditions at the Department of Homeland Security's immigrant detention centers. The hearing, dubbed "Holiday on ICE" by chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), focused on the idea that Obama administration rules intended to prevent sexual abuse and inhumane conditions at Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facilities made detention too fancy. "War on Women," meet "War on Immigrant Women."

In 2008, the Washington Post published an in-depth investigation of inhumane conditions at ICE detention centers. As Bob Libal at Texas Prison Bid'ness points out , ICE was forced to cancel its contract with a detention center in Texas' Willacy County after it was "rocked by allegations of sexual assaults, immigrant smuggling, spoiled food, and protests." Those conditions, detailed in a 2011 Frontline report , were exacerbated by Obama administration policies exempting immigration detention centers from the Prison Rape Elimination Act. As far as accommodations go, Willacy was more Hostel than Holiday Inn.

Justice Department to sue Arizona sheriff after talks fall through

The Justice Department is preparing to sue Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known internationally as "America's toughest sheriff," saying talks between the two sides have fallen through.

The Obama administration and Arpaio's Maricopa County Sheriff's Office had been in the midst of settlement talks, after the Justice Department accused it of systematically discriminating against Latinos.

As part of the settlement, the department wanted Arpaio to allow an independent monitor to oversee reforms at his office. The Justice Department called it a "key, non-negotiable requirement."

The two sides were scheduled to meet Wednesday, but Arpaio called off the meeting at the last minute, the Justice Department said.

No doubt S12 would say "the law is the law" and make the girl stay in Mexico for 3yrs however in America, second chances for genuine mistakes are often allowed. Before the anti-illegals all shout "she was an idiot" remember that NASA and the ESA made a colossal mistake in 1998 with the Mars rover mission when they forgot to account for the difference in US imperial and European metric measures and crashed the probe on Mars instead of setting it down on the planets surface.

You're a bit behind the times MIR. Been a USC since Oct 2008. The reason I post these stories is to illustrate that the immigration system is broken and that there has been a move against illegal immigrants from certain quarters in the past few years. The thing is many of these illegals (young kids bought here by their parents) never asked to be here in the first place so why should they suffer? It doesn't make sense. America has traditionally been the Land of Opportunity and second chances. We shouldn't deny these young kids a chance IMO. Those that say secure the borders first then we'll talk translates into close the borders and we'll forget about it. We all know that coded language.
