Thread: Need help for a friend who might be facing deportation

  1. #1
we just found out that one of our family friend doesn't have papers, but his been here for about 15years. He has worked in different places and companies, and as far as I know he is recieving unemployment, but recently he was caught drunk driving without liscence and the worst part was someone was hit, but it wasn't his fault. Before the accident happened he wants to apply to become legal resident, can he still do that? Is there anything that he can do so he wont be deported.

We really need your opinion and help
    Thanks...

mizzy, one of the main requirements for adjustment of status from illegal to permanent resident are that he must not be a "public burden", receiving unemployement as someone who's not authorized to work in the U.S., especially if those benefits are from a federal pot is a pretty big problem. If he entered the U.S. uninspected, his chances are pretty slim already though if he was brought here he could have some chance to adjust if there weren't any other problems. The drunk driving with a hurt person sounds serious, and that by itself is probly enough to push his removal. Consult a lawyer!

cuzin, there must be something suspicious about your cousing for INs to detain him, he must be posing some kind of potential threat. He's probly from a Muslim country or a country with a large muslim population. If he's not involved in any scams he should be o.k. and he has some sort of basis to adjust his status and prove himself he should be fine, but it will take some struggle. deportations are not too easy to win these days but American justice still prevails strongly! good luck
