Thread: I-130 and I-485 filed together?

  1. #1
    Guest
We send the I-130 and I-485 together to the office specified on the mailing adress at INS' web pages.
The office send most of our forms back, except the I-130.
They told us they dont do family related I-485 there and to go to a different office.
Now we are being told that nothing can be started until the I-130 is approved.
The estimated time for that process is 815 to 825 days.
Which means I am without even the slightest chance of helping my family with an income. Atleast legally.
Is there nothing I can do?
The office I need to file the I-485 at refuses to even talk to me.
The office that have my I-130 tells me that I was mis-informed when I was quoting the I-130 forms about filing a I-130 and I-485 together.
Can I get a temporery work permit somehow? Or a social security number (Even if I cant work I will soon need an american drivers licence so I can ATLEAST take care of our daugthers... driving them to school etc etc.).
Please someone help me, I feel overhelmed by this slow slow system..

I assume you are filing an Adjustment of status and that you are in the United States already.

If that is so, you can certianly file all forms including the I765 for a work permit.

Which region or the US are you in? My husband was able to get a driver's license without a ssn. He presented his passport and took the test. Have you called the DMV to find out what the rules are in your state? try that. I bet you can get the DL with no problem.

I an in the state of Nevada..
Send all applications to the Laguna office in Califonia.
They only kept the I-130 and told me to go to the Reno office with the rest.

The DMV says that they need a social security number sigh.
