Hi everyone. I need little guidance. My parents I-130s got approved in September. The lawyer that is helping me asked me then to send her two checks to state department in an amount of $470 each. She told me now we need to wait for some forms to arrive to fill them out. What does that mean? Does it mean that now consular processing portion is in progress or what? I can't get a straight answer from her and would like to know what are the next steps and possible timing of their arrival. Thank you so much.

Now, it is still at NVC stage. NVC hadles some paperwork (Affidavit of support, bio-form) and requires payments. When that's all finished, file will be sent to the local consulate. Only then, you can talk about "consular processing portion" as local consulate will send a list of requirements to your parents (to get medical, police reports..), and possible schedule an interview (or wait until your parents inform them they have all the papers to schedule an interview).

How long it will take? It all depends how busy the consulate is...

Don't know if you are through with the Affidavit of support stage with NVC, but let's say 6 more months total, before your parents will board a plane, is a safe guess... but it could be as little as 2 ...
