Thread: HOTELS : Horrible Ones in Manhattan, New York

    There is a saying that you get what you pay for. Well, at both the Wellington Hotel and the Radisson Lexington Hotel in Manhattan you do NOT get what you pay for. These two hotels are the worst for the money.

    Booked the Wellington Hotel thru hotels.com which fraudulently rated the hotel as 3-1/2 stars. The airconditioning does NOT work - hotter than hell in the elevator, and the room that I got (for US$160.00 a night) is half the size of a $40.00 room at any decent Best Western. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

    At the Radisson Lexington Hotel, this is our experience. Booked the hotel thru Expedia.com. Specified two double beds and non-smoking. Arrived at 4:30PM just to be told there was no room with two double beds, and that the only room with two single beds was a SMOKING room. We told them we would wait until the room was available. AFter 1-1/2 hours of waiting, we finally got a room that was so horribly small. The phone did not work, so we were moved to a slightly larger room. The new room was slightly larger in size, but still half the size of a $40.00 room at any Best Western. BUT - and here is the laundry list : * only hot boiling water came out of the cold water faucet until the plumber came to fix it * the air conditioning did not work, until the technician came to fix it * the yellow pages did not exist, until our last night and after we complained to the hotel management a 4th time * the TV remote control did not work, and still did not work by the time we checked out * The alarm clock on the nightstand did not work, and still did not work by the time we checked out * There was always very little toilet paper in the bathroom - just one roll * And the coup de grace, or the "nail on the coffin" so to speak, was that the Raffles restaurant / cafe at the hotel did not tell us beforehand that they do NOT accept credit cards, and their food and house wine were just plain horrible * All in all, it was just a horrible horrible horrible experience for me and my wife.

    STAY AWAY FROM BOTH HOTELS AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!!!!!

    for the advise, there should be a web-site that points out such business for others to avoid!

    I wouldn't advertise those hotels as bad ones, if I were in your place.

    I don't know, I'm the type of person who not really trust things advertised in internet, such as for holidays, hotels (cheap hotels and so on they said) and I remember hotels.com also advertised in tv, credit cards (which not from the well known bank) or just anything that sounds fishy to me. Coz' I have learnt from many mistakes doing deals with these types of business. So what I do now, I just make sure that the hotels are the establish one. Sometimes they said its 3 or 4 stars, but when you get there its look like $25 room! I just want you guys be careful specially when someone call you to offer for holidays package, super amounts credit cards and so on before check about it first.

    Well I've learnt my by scam twice! So no more.
