Thread: Discussion Board Policy On Abuse

  1. #1
Dear Discussion Board Posters and Readers,

In response to several complaints, we monitored posts on this board recently. This board is for immigration related issues, and posters are welcome to offer their opinions, regardless of whether they support or oppose immigration, whether legal or undocumented. We do not censor or closely monitor each posting on this board, we leave it largely to be self-regulated. However, we have had a consistent policy since the inception of this board over two years ago against what we define as abuse. Abuse could consist of one or more of the following (1) Excessive posting of matters unrelated to immigration; (2) Excessive cross-posting; (3) Attacks on the underlying technology; (4) Use of foul language; (5) Pornographic/sex-related. In over two years of this board's existence we have only once or twice had to block posters from this board for abuse. Unfortunately, a few recent posts on this board are abuse per point #4 above (and maybe per point #5) and it appears that these posters come from both the pro-immigration and anti-immigration camps. We intend to closely monitor this board for the next couple of days, and will take such action as is within our technological capability to block users who use foul language, or otherwise abuse this board. From next week onwards, if abuse of this board persists, please send complaints to webmaster@ilw.com.

All that is is a slap on the wrist! That's not going to stop anyone from posting what has been posted.

What's the point of leaving those posts there??

That's not a solution. And as far as emailing goes, that does nothing either!

You need to do more than just sit there and watch what is being posted! That's not going to stop anyone from posting obscenities and hateful posts.

How difficult is it to require all the users to register in order to post?

I think you have been far to lenient in regards to the abusers on this site; instead of asking them to stop, why not just block their IP and report them to their ISP?

These message boards degrade the overall appeal of this site.

Your technology is a joke. Good luck.

I would like to see the ability to have a permanent username, as a few of the dirty little immigrants keep impersonating me.

Yeah. It's pretty stupid to have a board with no guidelines. People will post ignorant messages.

I know that the original tb did not write this. I think he is too intelligent for this.

As bad as tb is, his impersonator is worse

    For tb.... (the original)

I think your arguments are sound and valid, however you should consider trying a less confrontational approach getting your thoughts across.

All in all, we need this kind of persepctive on this board.

By this time we really do not know who tb is. Everbody know he also impersonates others. HE EVEN IMPERSONATES HIMSELF!

If you say he's as intelligent as you think he is then by all means he can leave this board and find another place where he can share his charm.
