Thread: D Visa and marriage to USC

  1. #1
    Hola,
A friend arrived here November 2000 on D (Seaman)visa. Plans to marry a USC soon. Could the adjustment of status be done in US? Can the departure be avoided? Does he have to go back to his country of origin or anywhere else?
Very confusing, some lawyers say he has to go back to the country of origin (and earn a 10 year ban on entering US)but some say that he has to leave but it would be through the back door (Canada)...
    Confused...
