I done it back in 2001, most of the USCIS employees are nice there. Bring lots and lots of documentation, they won't even look at it probably but if they see that you are prepared everything will go smooth.

had mine in 6/2003. we brought more than enough documents/photos in two huge binders but the lady didn't even ask for anything. she told me to get a medical exam, gave us a form(for med exam) so i sent it the next week. and then, we waited for 5 and a half months... and got my temp perm residency stamp two weeks ago(12/2003). good luck!

I sure will post next Tuesday! :-) My lawyer was initially concerned because my husband and I were both grad students in the past two years (graduated in May 2003) so we didn't have continuous full-time jobs to prove the income requirements.

However my lawyer realized that we did internships in 2002 (between the two years of grad school) and he did work partially in 2001 so we should be fine. I guess my only concern is that although the 125% poverty line is around 15000, for New York Metro would the INS require more income? (he has income of 42K, 49K, 52K in 2000, 2001, and 2002, but 2001 he only worked 7 months, and 2002 he only worked 2 months)..would the immigration officer care income is from partial year or part time jobs?

As a quick note I will tell you that most of the USCIS employees (except for the afro-americans) at Newark are immigrants themselves, and the ones that are not their parents are.

Had my interview in Newark. It went smooth. Had lots of evidence and pics, but all they looked at was bank statement.
    Filed 485, 130,EAD, 12/02
    Had FP 01/03
    Received EAD 02/03
    SSC 06/03
AOS interview and stamp in passport 08/03
    Received green card 11/03.

Newark INS officers are nice, if you are prepared, you will not have any problem. Not only the immigrant or dependent of immigrants, the afro-american are more nicer. I give special thanks to one officer who is also an Afro-american.
Its the EORI trial attorneys who are based , except one LISA GULUB( she is nice lady and understanding) other then that EOIR attorneys and anti-Immigrant upto that level where they even object the judge discretion against aliens.
Its a discussion, not a legal advise..
