Thread: just a question

I was wondering if someone might be able to answer some questions. I am a US citizen who is getting married to a canadian citizen. I want to bring him to the US to live and work. How do I do that? I read about the fiancee visa.. how does that work? Hoe long does it take? Can he work while the paperwork is going through? What does it cost? Is there any one who can help me do all of this? Do I need a lawyer?
I am sorry to ask so many questions. I hope someone can help me... thank you very much. I appreciate any advice.

Hi...Check out this site. It will take you through the process of filing I-129F to receiving the K-1 Fiancee Visa...and then through the stages of AOS after that...Good Luck!

The K-1 visa takes time, but is the best route to go when looking at the long term.

Please feel free to contact me at info@myronmorales.com if you have additional questions.

Hi there. Everyone is correct the best is the K-1 Fiancee Visa. My fiance is from BC and he just obtained his Visa on 2/12/03. Basically the US fiancee needs to get the I-129F form and complete it and all the supporting documentation and submit it to the INS service center for your area of the country. Then it will go thru an review and approval process. Once approved it will be forwarded to the Consulate in Canada that is closest to where the Canadian fiancee is. Then they send out another packet of information for the Canadian to complete and submit. This is a very basic description I am giving you but for time this is the quickest process. Ours worked like this. I submitted the Fiancee Visa on 8/27/02, We received our approval on 10/30/02, My fiancee received his packet from the Consulate in Vancouver on 11/07/02. Now if we had not waited we could have got his Visa sooner probably in December. That Visa is good for 6months for one entry into the US as a Non-immigrant. The fiancee has 90 days to marry in the states or has to go back. Once married in the 90 days you will file what is called an Adjustment of status, including filing for a work authorization. People coming in on the fiancee visa are authorized to work for that 90 days but will need to get a ssn. So it may take a few weeks for that. Sorry to go on but it does take some work to do it but it is well worth it. Let me suggest two sites that helped me do the whole thing.

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canamcouples/

    and especially

    http://k1.exit.com/

The second site has tons of info

The first site is a bunch of us going thru the process together with our other half in Canada. Hope this helps.
