    hi all,

i have been a gc holder for over six years. live in nyc. am planning to apply for citizenship.

is it better to get an attorney for this?

and what is the total turnaround time these days from the application to approval?

You can file it yourself. You do not need an attorney. Please make sure that the application is complete. Many applications are returned after months, because basic info was left out. Please compile an accurate list of your trips out of USA. Even after you have filed your application, you will be asked to update all the info in you application at the interview.

If you are planning to move in the near future, you are better off filing in the new jurisdiction 3 months after you move.

    Good Luck

I know some one who went through this in NYC, It took him 12+ months. He was lucky and made it to a big swearing in ceremony at Javits Center. Timing is everything.

    Please file right away.

U DONT NEED AN ATTORNEY TO APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP . PERSONALLY I THINK IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY. THE APPLICATION IS VERY SIMPLE TO FILL AND AFTER ABOUT 12 MONTHS OR LESS U WILL GET THE INTERVIEW DATE WHERE THEY WILL ASK U SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT USA HISTORY. BASICALLY THERE R ABOUT 100 QUESTIONS WHICH U HAVE TO KNOW AND THE ANSWERS TO THEM R VERY SIMPLE. THE OFFICER WILL ASK U 7-15 QUESTIONS FROM THOSE 100 AND THAT IS IT.THE ANSWERS R VERY SIMPLE.ONE OF THE QUESTION AMONG THOSE 100 ARE-- HOW MANY STARS ARE THERE IN THE USA FLAG??? ANSWER- 50. IF U WANT I CAN MAIL U THE 100 QUESTIONS.. BUT TO SUM IT UP IT IS VERY EASY AND U DONT NEED AN ATTORNEY FOR THAT.
