Comment: Southern Border Is Super Secure - Close The Northern Border

We carry an article today by Scott Stewart of Security Weekly, a Stratfor publication which puts the kibosh on garbage spewed by traitors within the Republican Right Wing about our border with Mexico. These tea party crazies would have Americans believe that unless we establish a 100 foot tall wall, complete with a 100 foot deep moat (with alligators), our southern border will not be secure against not just invading children, but also al Qaeda terrorists who could sneak in thru a porous border. These terrorists within the Republican Party deliberately fly in the face of facts, which Mr. Stewart's article clearly shows. Before we get to quotes from Mr. Stewart's article, it is worth noting that Mr. Stewart was a special agent with DOS for 10 years and was involved in hundreds of terrorism investigations (here's his full bio). Now for quotes from Mr. Stewart's article:

"Lost in all the media hype over this "border crisis" is the fact that in 2013 overall immigration was down significantly from historical levels. According to U.S. Border Patrol apprehension statistics, there were only 420,789 apprehensions in 2013 compared to 1,160,395 in 2004. In fact, from fiscal 1976 to 2010, apprehensions never dropped below 500,000. During that same period, the Border Patrol averaged 1,083,495 apprehensions per year compared to just 420,789 last year."

In other words, if mad men like Senator Cruz and Governor Perry are worried about our southern border today, where were their complaints from 1976 through 2010, when the problems at the Southern border were considerably greater?

"[A]n examination of all jihadist plots since the first such attack in the United States -- the November 1990 assassination of the radical founder of the Jewish Defense League, Meir Kahane -- shows that none had any U.S.-Mexico border link ... there have been more plots against the U.S. homeland that have involved the U.S.-Canada border, including the 1997 plot to bomb the New York Subway and the Millennium Bomb Plot."

It is transparent that the motives of Mssrs. Cruz and Perry are political and that they give not two cents about American security, otherwise why are they not up in arms about our Northern border?

Now for normal Americans (unlike the insane wing of the Republican party) who are concerned that a porous border, north or south, is bad for American security, we should take note of the fact that our southern border is porous primarily because we do not (yet) have legalized drugs in USA. The border region is the playground of Mexican organized gangs, and is no threat to US security as far as al Qaeda infiltrators are concerned, here's Mr. Stewart again:

"Mexican organized crime bosses are businessmen, and even if they were morally willing to work with terrorists -- a questionable assumption -- working with a terrorist group would be bad for business. It is quite doubtful that Mexican crime bosses would risk their multibillion-dollar smuggling empires for a one-time payment from a terrorist group."

We encourage those in Congress who seek to strengthen US border security to devote all available resources to our Northern border, and to find creative constitutional ways to deport Mr. Cruz and Mr. Perry any country that will have them.
