Comment: DACA 2 Years Later

The Immigration Policy Center published a study assessing the impact of DACA on its 2-year anniversary. IPC surveyed DACA recipients and here are the key findings. DACA has increased opportunities and economic integration: 59% of DACA recipients obtained a new job, 49% opened their first bank account, 33% obtained their first credit card, 57% obtained a driver's license, and 45% increased job earnings. 43% of DACA eligible non-applicants cited economic hardship, lack of trust in institutions and parenthood as reasons for not applying to DACA. Despite becoming less afraid of being deported and more trusting of law enforcement, undocumented DACA recipients report that additional relief is necessary for their low-income families at risk for deportations. 70% of recipients have had a parent, sibling or neighbor who has been deported.
