Comment: Introducing Key Players in Immigration

With major immigration reform on the horizon, and likely to be achieved early in the 113th Congress, we present below the key players on both sides of Capitol Hill.

On the House side, the players are Rep. Gowdy, Republican of South Carolina (immigration subcommittee chair) and Rep. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia (judiciary committee chair). Key roles will also be played by the House Republican leadership Rep. Boehner (R-OH), Rep. Cantor (R-VA), and Rep. McCarthy (R-CA). Important members of the minority party on immigration are: Rep. Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Gutierrez (D-IL).

On the Senate side, the players are Sen. Schumer, Democrat of New York (immigration subcommittee chair) and Sen. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont (judiciary committee chair). Key roles will also be played by the Senate Democratic leadership Sen. Reid (D-NV) and Sen. Durbin (D-IL). Important members of the minority party on immigration are: Sen. McConnell (R-KY) and Sen. Rubio (R-FL).

Since members of both parties have in recent days emphasized the importance and urgency of immigration, we look forward to announcements of committee hearings and markups. Let reform begin! Share your thoughts at editor@ilw.com
